The Pump House

Project:

Conversion of a Victorian pumping station to a high specification house equipped for modern living (5500 sq feet)

The conversion of The Pump House was a major project. The building, on purchase, was still in its industrial mode as a pumping station for spring water. The initial approach was to prepare the building for conversion , removing machinery and filling the many voids and the well, previously used to extract spring water.

Once this stage was complete, the process of converting this elegant Victorian building could begin. This included, the formation of a first floor to include bedrooms and study, a totally new slate roof, the replacement of the metal windows with wood, plastering throughout and many internal alterations to create a stunning internal space equipped for modern living, including 4 bedrooms, a study, 3 bathrooms, 3 reception rooms, a cloakroom and a large kitchen.

This work obviously required a keen understanding of safe propping practices, an insight into design, both interior and exterior, and very and close attention to budgetary considerations, using reclaimed materials wherever possible to retain the character of the building. The result is the conversion of a redundant building into a house for modern living, thus securing the future of the building for many years to come.
